Summary

The world is falling to the burning shadow of the Possessed and only the power of a battle mage can save it. But the ancient bond with dragonkind is failing. Of those that answer a summoning too many are black. Black dragons are the enemy of humankind. Black dragons are mad.

Falco Dante is a weakling in a world of warriors, but worse than this, he is the son of a madman. Driven by grief, Falco makes a decision that will drive him to the brink of despair. As he tries to come to terms with his actions Falco follows his friends to the Academy of War, an elite training school dedicated to martial excellence. But while his friends make progress he struggles to overcome his doubts and insecurity. Even Queen Catherine of Wrath has her doubts about Falco's training.

While the Queen tries to unite the Kingdoms against the Possessed, Falco struggles to overcome his fears. Will he unlock the power trapped inside him or will he succumb to madness and murder like his father?

Shocked to find such a Gem

Would you listen to Battle Mage again? Why?

of course I am going to listen to the book again, it is going into my...go to books for a good listen... plus there are always somethings one misses on first listen my go to book
authors are the likes of Gemmell, weber, feist, Moon, Weeks and a few others whose books I can listen to over and over again and this one joins that list

What was one of the most memorable moments of Battle Mage?

there are many, many such moments throughout the book and why spoil it for others

Which character – as performed by RD Watson – was your favourite?

all the main characters qualify

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I had to force myself to listen in 3 hour sections, of course that meant having to start re listening 20 minutes or so of the 3 hour section finished, and mostly I listened to two sections a day

Any additional comments?

When I read some of the reviews about the book being pretty good I took it with a pinch, but I love long books that are worth the credit, and be assured this book is well worth the cost of a credit

Thoroughly enjoyable story with both suspense and tearful moments sometimes spoilt by the performance not quite living up to the characterisation.

very good

very good story, well read. would recommend. hard to put down once started and you get into it. strong but very human characters with the book covering well how they grow from teen-agers to adults with responsibilities but strong ties to friends

Excellent and Must have Audio

I bought this as i liked the sound of it and the amount of positive reviews was very encouraging.
To say i was surprised it didn't have more was an understatement , the world building was top notch and usually something this length is split up into a trilogy with the first being promising and the rest to follow increasingly better.
Suffice to say that the dragon riding ( big McCaffrey fan) was a draw helped ,but the characters and the in depth plot with intricate plot surprises kept this a firm focus of my attention.
As this author was unknown to me i can assume that many people haven't given this a try, but they should as i hope further positive reviews will allow for further stories in this world.
Narration was also by an unknown but was done very well and suited the characters well and will also be someone to keep an eye out for.

The Narrator Cannot Read

I enjoyed it at first, until some of the words were hard to understand. That’s when I got the kindle book version and followed along with the narration by RD Watson.

At first, I noticed minor errors and a few stutters, however I drew the line when the narrator completely changed the context of a sentence. It is so annoying because the author says one thing in the book and the audible narrator says another.

Very disappointed.

poor narration. lots of errors. GREAT story.

such a shame that the producers cheaped out on the recording. the narrator has a good voice but makes so many errors. mis pronouncing words and even names of the main characters are changed and warped throughout the recording. the story is good. the plot captivates. I enjoyed it overall
