About this listen

Four episodes from the much-loved radio show starring Dick Bentley, Jimmy Edwards, June Whitfield, and Wallas Eaton

Take It from Here was one of the most influential radio shows of all time, sweeping in a new era of comedy and introducing an enduring pair of writers: bright young things Frank Muir and Denis Norden. Their literate scripts, and the madcap adventures of Dick Bentley, "Professor" Jimmy Edwards, and June Whitfield, ensured 11 years of classic capers.

Who could forget the barrage of puns, the Take It from Here "Oscar"-winning screen skits, and the hilarious weekly reports on the marathon engagement of the drippy Ron and the doting Eth of The Glums? "Oh, Ron!" and the inevitable response 'Oh, Eth!' became a despairing catchphrase that swept the land, and The Glums' popularity continued in two television series.

Now we can laugh again at their timeless humour in these four fantastic episodes from 1958. Oh, bliss!

Great Classic Comedy

Even though Take it from Here was broadcast over 30 years before I was born, I really enjoyed listening to it. I first started listening to it when it was broadcast on BBC Radio 7 and it grew on me. This inspired me to buy this audio book. I don't regret it. It definitely has it's place with other comedy shows of that type, such as the Goon Show, Hancock's Half Hour and Round the Horne. Overall, I feel it was a really enjoyable listen and I hope Audible adds more episodes of this show and others to it's catalogue.Even though Take it from Here was broadcast over 30 years before I was born, I really enjoyed listening to it. take it from here

I only really bought this to listen to the glums there are four half hour shows with dreadful songs from the fifties and apart from the glums the humour is tired. but it is I feel still nice to listen to for the nostalgia. if you listen carefully to the script you can sometimes here the comic beating the censor. As at the time Auntie beeb still attempted to stop us listening to bad language and blue jokes. Which happens to be one of the things I admired as when you listen nowadays the language is foul and English spoken properly with correct annunciation is extinct and even joked about. I have to admit I can see the funny side though but miss the more quiet innocence of my childhood.
