Summary

Joined in a battle for survival, a broken-winged angel and a shapeshifter huntress with a bloody past form a bond that may change their world.

Alone since her father's murder, Aurora has spent years hunting his killers. Battle-weary she's ready to start over where no one knows who or what she is, she just has one last mission to complete. Everything is going to plan until she discovers the beautiful winged girl caged underground.

Her decision to rescue Evie and to help her get home safely, despite avians being infamous for selling out shapeshifters like Aurora to cutters and black-market flesh dealers, will put her on a perilous path.

As the women travel together their attraction grows but Aurora is guarding her lonely heart almost as much as her dangerous secrets and Evie is struggling to accept how important Aurora has become to her.

When their enemies conspire to kill them, they may be each other's only hope. Aurora is powerful but she's also emotionally scarred and it will be up to Evie to save her from herself and to fight for them or innocent people will die along with the guilty ones and Aurora will disappear from Evie's life forever.

Contains mature themes.

It’s okay

For some reason I did enjoy the story despite the plot being very weak. It has some pacing issues and nothing really happens until the very end but it’s okay. The characters are interesting.

A well received surprise

I started hearing the audiobook without knowing much about it, just that it was a fantasy book and that was LGBT, which I thought it will be interesting.
I did not expected me to be this invested in the story and the lore behind it. Honestly, I will love to have more information about the world of Nordarra and of course a follow up of the relationship of our protagonist.
Speaking of our protagonists, I really love tham! I really liked their characters and dynamics.
I know that the book came out in 2019, but I really wish to know more about them.
Now that I finished the audiobook I know I'm going to miss them.
About the acting of Abby Craden, it was magnificent; it gave life to all the characters. This is the first time I hear one of her works and I'm hooked!
I thoroughly recommend the audiobook for everything that it has to offer. If you like fantasy, LGBTQ (f/f love) characters, and spicy stories this was made for you and It will not disappoint you.

Excellent

A beautifully written heart warming story. I hope there is a sequel in the works as this fascinating world deserves to be revisited. I would love to see Aurora and Evie tested against new challenges with more adventure and drama as their relationship grows and matures, so much potential to delve into. Abbey Craden gives a wonderful performance and really brings Emily's words to life. Loved it!

Amazing

This book isn't something I would usually read/listen too but im so glad I did after a few recommendations. I fell in love with the story, characters and magical world they live in, i could not press pause. The writing is beautiful, it makes you feel so many different emotions, I am looking forward to discovering other works from the author.

Stellar Conclusion

I enjoyed the entire audiobook, but the last few hours were enthralling. The main characters (and most of the side characters) are great, and their journey is interesting, with some nice worldbuilding which suggests there's a lot of potential for other books in this setting (either with the same protagonists or as spin-offs), but the drama really amps up towards the end, so that was definitely my favourite part. Not that I'd advocate cutting anything, I'm a fan of long books (particularly in the fantasy genre), so I have no complaints about the length of this one.

The only downside in my opinion is that much of the story has a melancholic feel, because the protagonists believe their relationship is doomed to be short-lived. That’s not enough of a downside for me to lower the rating I give it (5 stars!), but I hope that if there's ever a sequel, they’ll not return to wondering whether they should split up and go their separate ways.
