About this listen

Alison is more alone than she's ever been. She is convinced that her ex-husband Jack is following her. She is certain she recognises the strange woman who keeps approaching her in the canteen.

She knows she has a good reason to be afraid. She just can't remember why.

Then the mention of one name turns her life upside down.

Alison feels like she's losing her mind...but it could just lead her to the truth.

We all go a little mad sometimes....

Gripping story

*Trigger warning - mental health & domestic violence*
A gripping story told from a perspective not often explored in this genre. Difficult to listen to at times because of the subject matter. Very well read.

Average and predictable

This was predictable a third if the way in but nevertheless a holiday read.
The narration was good apart from pronouncing been as bin every time. Annoying

I loved this story, something most mothers can relate to, beautiful storytelling and clever twists

Falls well short of a good psychological thriller

Without giving away any part of the story, there are 3 things that I don't like about this book:
► It involves characters making bad decisions that I really can't relate to
► The author tries to create suspense where there isn't any, just by leaving out key information, esp. in part 1
► Mental illness is just that. It should not be an excuse for labelling a book "Psychological Thriller"

On the positive side, it was quite readable, not too many characters, easy to follow (at least after the beginning). There's interest all the way through. It does get you wondering how the end will turn out.

As performer, Helen Keeley does a decent job of trying to inject drama. Although, since the story is told alternately from the perspective of the woman and a man, it really needed two separate people to perform the reading.
