Audio brings this book to life
Having read the kindle version of this book, I couldn’t wait to get my ears onto the audio version. I always feel that the audio version gives you a totally different perspective on a story than with the written version - and vice versa. So it’s nice to be able to listen to and see what different nuances come out. Oh, and of course we have the incomparable John Lane and Maxine Mitchell to make my earbuds tingle!
Aldo Ricci is the right hand man of Roman Costas - casino and hotel mogul and king of the Niagara Falls underworld. Aldo is serious, stoic and other than Roman, no-one ever gets close to him. His absolute bafflement when he meets - and can’t stop thinking about - Violet is adorably hilarious. Which is not something anyone would dare say to Aldo. But he’s actually a really lovely guy - a big, protective teddy bear who is absolutely smitten with Violet. Strong man, soft heart. Happy sighs.
John Lane just *is* Melanie Moreland’s heroes. All of them. He’s so believable no matter who he’s portraying - be it the sweet guy or, as in this case, the grumpy gangster. His voice is so deep and rich and emotive. Gah - love that man.
I admit that Violet was not what I expected. Rather than a shy, virginal type (that I’ve nothing against), Violet was sassy, confident and fiercely independent. I was surprised with how much I liked her. Despite her circumstances, she was nobody’s victim but she definitely had a vulnerability when it came to Aldo. But at the same time, he gave her strength. And of course, Maxine Mitchell excels at portraying Vi and all her layers. She nails both the vulnerability and the strength of Vi and at this stage, I will accept no-one else for the voice of Ms Moreland’s heroines.
Aldo and Vi are definitely the perfect pairing. And that was even more evident when it came to the bedroom. This couple were on fire. Even at the start when it was “just sex”, there was a connection there that made it so much hotter.
There’s a little bit of suspense in the book but it wasn’t a mystery and, thankfully, it wasn’t too scary (other than the thought!). It kept the story moving and gave just that perfect touch of peril to our couple’s relationship.
There will be some comparisons to Ms Moreland’s Men of Hidden Justice series and while there are similarities - these men are are definitely more ruthless. Oh they’re still good men in their own ways - but there’s definitely an undercurrent of ruthlessness and brutality about them. But I was still swooning over Aldo and happy to cheer for him and Violet to get their happily ever after.
As always with Melanie Moreland, her characters stole my heart and their romance gave me the perfect blend of feels and sexiness. And equally so with the the narrators - they bring the story - and Vi and Aldo - to life and give it such depth. I fell in love a little bit more with each word spoken. Without a doubt this is a 5 stars listen and I can’t wait to hear more.

I loved these two so much!
I thoroughly enjoyed this quick, mafia romance. This story was addicting and it had me hooked from the first page.
I absolutely loved Vi and Aldo together. These two were so perfect for each other. Vi was the perfect match to the large personality that was Aldo and I loved every minute of their romance.
I can’t wait to read/listen to Roman’s book!
John Lane and Maxine Mitchell were phenomenal in this audiobook and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to them bring Vi and Aldo to life!

Violet is amazing and a perfect match for Aldo
Aldo is the first of the Men of the Falls, a new series from Melanie Moreland.
I must say, I love a tortured hero who is saved by the woman who turns out to be 'the one'.
Aldo and Violet's story affords us a strong, independent, hardworking woman who is forging her own path but meets a sometimes overbearing, protective alpha male who can't understand the attraction he feels for this new employee.
Violet's wit and turn of phrase alternately caught my breath and made me laugh out loud.
All in all, Aldo and Violet will make your heart happy and you will absolutely want to meet the woman who brings Roman his HEA .
