About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
'From what is it they flee?'
He took a while to reply. By the time he spoke the men had gone inside. He said quietly, 'They killed the King.'
1660, General Edward Whalley and Colonel William Goffe, father- and son-in-law, cross the Atlantic. They are on the run and wanted for the murder of Charles I. Under the provisions of the Act of Oblivion, they have been found guilty in absentia of high treason.
In London, Richard Nayler, secretary of the regicide committee of the Privy Council, is tasked with tracking down the fugitives. He'll stop at nothing until the two men are brought to justice. A reward of £100 hangs over their heads—for their capture, dead or alive.
Act of Oblivion is an epic journey across continents and a chase like no other.

A wonderful story
I’ve enjoyed all of Robert Harris’ books but I believe this to be his best. A wonderful story superbly told - multi-layered with great characters.

My best ever Audible listen.
Act Of Oblivion is without doubt, the best Audible book that I have ever listened to.
The story mostly fact which then becomes faction, is just quite simply, tremendous.
Tim McInnerny narration, is quite simply masterful. When it comes to narration, for those that know, Tim is in my opinion, certainly up there with Frank Muller.
If like me, you didn’t know anything about the regicide of King Charles 1, then you certainly will and more, after listening to Act Of Oblivion. Robert Harris proves once again, what a masterful story writer he is.
All I can say is, that if you’re interested in both English history and A Damn Good Yarn, then purchase Act Of Oblivion, post haste!!!

Act of Oblivion
While not Harris best novel, it is a throughly enjoyable read and taught me a lot about a period in history I was not familiar with. As always it is highly researched so that even the pieces that only might have happened are very believable. A define return to form after a couple of novels that were below par for such an excellent author.

5 stars all round!
Amazing narration from one of my favourite narrators. He really manages to capture the characters and pulls you through what is quite a long story, with a lot of moving parts and characters. Fascinating part of British history that has had me googling the real story.

Harris at his best
An enthralling book set during a fascinating period following the execution of Charles 1st. Harris weaves fact and fiction together creating sympathy for the key characters despite them being on opposing sides of the English Civil War. A great adventure, flipping between England and the American colonies. I could not stop listening and was always impatient to get back to this gripping story.

Masterpiece
One word: masterpiece. The writing in all its aspects is superb. The narration is in its own right masterful and does not ever let the superb text down or dominate it. I cannot rate it any higher. The whole production is exquisite.

Epic of Obsession, Loyalty, Pursuit and Revenge
Firstly, this is a masterclass in audio narration by the brilliant Tim McInnerny who really brings the novel alive. In less skilful hands the story could have been ruined but he captivated me throughout and he never faltered in bringing the characters and action alive. What struck me most was the way Harris conveyed the absolute certitude of both parties that their cause was just. The depictions of London at the time, of life aboard a transatlantic voyage, of executions, plague and all the other horrors of the age were superbly rendered. I can see this making an excellent long form TV series.
