About this listen
Abandoned as a child and unable to remember her past, Morgan was raised as a hunter, one of an elite group of fighters sworn to protect humans from the dangerous paranormal creatures who invade our world...creatures such as herself. Her life changes the day she's summoned to the Academy of Assassins, a school that trains witches and hunters to eradicate paranormals who prey on humans. Her first assignment - find and eliminate the killer who is using the Academy as their own personal hunting ground.
As Morgan delves deeper into the investigation, she will need to dodge assassination attempts, avoid the distraction of romantic entanglements with the devilishly handsome security expert, Kincade, and his maddeningly overprotective teammates, while keeping the volatile magic in her blood concealed from those who would use it for their own purposes.
When the danger increases and the school is threatened, Morgan must unearth her missing memories before someone finishes the job they started so long ago - killing her and unleashing a plague that will consume the world.

Lots to take in but worth it
4.5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ & 0.🌶️. *minor Spoiler*
I listened to the audiobook so the voice accents e.g Irish description of the characters below is based on the performance of Traci Odom. The plot is basically surrounding Morgan our FMC with a mysterious source of magic and unknown species. She has an Irish companion hellhound called Asher. She is sent away to train at the prestigious assassins academy to become a hunter and find out who is murdering the witches. In a world full of many species, sources of magic and pecking orders the school obviously hates her mixed breed. There is a lot of world building in this but I found it okay to follow. There were however bits I went back to on the ebook to better understand the characters. I even had to make my own character cards to help 😂.
Once at the academy Morgan meets our male characters;
- Kincade, head of academy security, elf/Gargoyle with Primordial magic and a dominant leader, protective and brooding. Dark hair, green eyes.
- Ryder, large warewolf shifter, understanding and gorgeous. Basically a big puppy. Brown hair and whisky brown eyes.
- Draven, Siren. Irish. ☘️. Funny, caring. instantly connects with our sassy FMC. Light hair and blue ocean eyes.
- Atlas, fairy, protective. Excellent warrior. Brown shaggy hair that just covers his pointy ears, light eyes.
All of which are ruthless warriors. They fight many creatures and discover many secrets of the academy along the way, including Morgan’s heritage. There is a lot of action and high fantasy in the plot. There is no spice at all. I’m intrigued to carry on the series at some stage for sure but purely because I found it hard to follow in places it’s not 5 full stars.

A page turner
This story got me hooked right away, and was one that I just had to keep listening to. The narrator on the whole did a good job of bringing the story to life, and there were only a couple of niggles. Some of her male voices were pretty awful, particularly Kincaid who sounded like he was being throttled all the time. Bit unfortunate he was one of the main characters. She could also do with learning to pronounce the word ‘moue’, which should be moo not mooay, and is that sort of pout when you are thinking. American narrators seem to have trouble with french based words though

Fascinating Urban Fantasy
An excellently built world and strong characters create a strong foundation for a gripping story. The narrator is very good and excellent and differentiating the characters voices to make it easier to follow when listening. She definitely added to the experience of the book and will look out for her other work.
I’m looking forward to listening to the next book in the series.

unexpected twist
Written in 3rd person. It's been some time since I've read that style
of book. FMC is called Morgan and is in her mid-20s, and she's been through some sh&t! She's been found wondering around with no memory, gone through torture, is use being bullied .
We meet the MMCs who are; Kincade, Ascher, Ryder, Draven, Atlas, and Caedmon. This is a slow burn reverse harem. With bonds and mates. But even with the mate bond snapping in, she may have insta lust but not insta love and makes it into a slow burn. No smut, a few of spicy kiss clashing moments. And plenty of FMC drooling over the MMCs.
Morgan is rough, serious, and tough. She's got an innocence about her that comes off as being clueless, but that's not it. To me, she just sees past the walls society accepts to easily.
We get to know the character build is strong, and it links you in more with the world they are trying to save. I want to know more, I want revenge, I want smut!
