About this listen
His crime was unforgivable, but the law protects him.
If an alleged crime is reported to you, but no victim can be found, has a crime been committed? This is exactly the question Billy Jo McCabe asks Detective Mark Friessen when an anonymous woman approaches her and tells her about an unspeakable crime taking place right under the watch of the chief of police, in his own family.
When Billy Jo reaches out to Mark with the story, he just can’t look away. They soon learn family is family, and the victim has been hiding her secret for years. But she’s not just any victim: She’s Cheyenne Potter, the niece of the chief of police, Tolly Shephard.
Mark has always suspected Tolly is a man of many secrets. Because he just can’t sit by, he partners up with Billy Jo to dig into the chief, his family, and the secret they’re hiding. He’s convinced the chief helped bury a crime, but every answer they find only exposes another question. The players in this game are people who use the law to their advantage, and even though neither Mark nor Billy Jo is afraid of a fight, they soon learn that stepping on the wrong toes may lead them into a fight they can’t win. Sometimes the law doesn’t protect the innocent - and it has the best nondisclosures money can buy.

A whirl wind of a story
Billy Jo Mccabe is a social worker and is kind of going out with Mark Friessen, detective.
The chief of police and his wife have deep secrets. Very, very deep. He also has a brother bothering Sydney, the local café owner.
She also is Mark's ex. An exquisite woman. Billy Jo sees herself as a woman, definitely not Mark's usual type. Molestation of a young girl. A mother who knew and did nothing. A relative. Murder. A confession. But is the confession a true one? A brilliant story once again.
