About this listen

For generations the solar system--Mars, the moon, the asteroid belt--was humanity's great frontier. Until now. The alien artefact working through its program under the clouds of Venus has emerged to build a massive structure outside the orbit of Uranus: a gate that leads into a starless dark.

Jim Holden and the crew of the Rocinante are part of a vast flotilla of scientific and military ships going out to examine the artefact. But behind the scenes, a complex plot is unfolding, with the destruction of Holden at its core. As the emissaries of the human race try to find whether the gate is an opportunity or a threat, the greatest danger is the one they brought with them.

Utterly gripping with numerous twists and turns.

Loved it.
At times the tension was almost too much. It built up nicely to a rolling climax.

loving the expanse series.

loving this series, it's one of the only audiobook sets that has made me laugh outloud and also shed a tear. normally do 12 hour shifts on site so it's class painting people's houses to this stuff. cheers.

The epic continues.

Amongst the diverse genre of science fiction, I have always had a special soft spot for space opera and this series is just some of the finest. I don't know if it's fortunate or unfortunate that I saw the TV series first, but the differences in the story and characters didn't jar and you could see where the author blended some parts of his literary characters in creating some of the TV characters. I have enjoyed both versions of the tale and am looking forward to the next book in the series.
The narrator reads well, with a steady pace that allows one to appreciate the words and manages to give each character their own personality without using extreme accents or other distinguishing devices.

Good continuance of the series

Good series, and this is a good continuation of it. I do recommend it, if you've done the previous ones already.

perfect ending to a scifi flick

endings are the most important part of any literary work. this series was truly building up to be more of a complex mystery than anything i have ever seen before. the puzzle is to make an ending that is deep n profound n hopefup, without being too human centric or just straight up nonsense.
this series has always hit that balance well. i will be thinking about the world opened up by the protomolecule for decades to come... until humanity really becomes interplanetary, if not interstellar. n then we get to write the next chapter ourselves...

Brilliant

A story to big for words. So much more than the tv show. Well worth a listen.
