About this listen

Follow an unfortunate soul who has been thrown into a fantasy world with nothing. He is quickly railroaded into joining the Legion and has to develop under harsh conditions while slowly discovering his potential power.

This story has light LitRPG elements with a stat and magic advancement system. The MC is not overpowered and experiences the pain of growth as he tries to find a place in the strange new world while staying alive. Neither are coming easy to him as his Legion Company is constantly in harm's way.

Really well written

I really have nothing bad to say about it, it's like a band of brothers, but with a Roman theme and magic.

bought Patreon after audiobook.

what I loved is that the main character is continuously stomped to the ground, but continues to work. most interactions between characters feel human, like how'd people would talk to each other. much more so than most other books I have seen so far.
the author has done a couple of things really well, world building (magic and technology feels realistic, at least to my history teacher knowledge), characters, every character feels thought out, they have a goal, and won't do things without reason.

I'd say the only things that was poorly done was the main characters lack of love for his old family, and lack of information on how his Isekai part happens, you're told it from his perspective, and later you hear of reactions to that, but not of the cause so far till book 4. though an explanation isn't needed, you probably won't get it.

still, very good book and story, a bit quick on learning language on my side, but it is how it is. the audio is well done.

Loved the audiobook, proceeded to read the next volume on Royal Road and then signed up to patreon to read volume 3 and and have caught up to mid-way through volume 4....Sign, good books are bad for the wallet.

Just buy the book, you won’t regret it if you like progression

I just checked my library, and I think I have around 150-200 books there, all of them a mix of fantasy and progression fantasy. This is easily one of my favorites.

It’s rare that you find a gem like this. I am usually very judgmental when it comes to writing as I dabble a bit in writing as a hobby, but this blew me out of the water.

It is exactly what I want from a progression story.
First the powers:
It has an MC with awesome powers, while giving him enough weaknesses that he can’t just steamroll everyone. In fact, most monster, characters etc. feel stronger than the mc, which I really appreciate. The mc also gets progressively stronger, but it’s slow.

The world building is first class. The whole Roman concept is amazingly done. It just keeps getting better and better.

It also keeps being a soldier book, with banter, different characters in the squad and hard moral choices etc.

There is tension, action and the pacing is marvelous. Main issue is that the book is too short, but luckily there is a second book, with a third coming in a month.

What really brings it all together though is the excellent writing and narration. Combined with
Just buy the book, you won’t regret it.
