Summary
Meera Syal stars as family liaison officer Jackie Hartwell in this thrilling police procedural.
West Midlands copper Jackie Hartwell has one of the toughest jobs in CID: comforting and supporting grieving relatives in the aftermath of a serious crime. But there's much more to what she does than providing tea and sympathy. Part social worker, part savvy investigator, she needs to be able to win the trust of families, while simultaneously keeping a watchful eye on their behaviour and reactions. Because often, the suspect she's searching for isn't far from home....
As an FLO, she's closer to the people involved than any of her colleagues, and can investigate in a way they can't. With her combination of empathy, intuition and razor-sharp observation, she's often the first to get to the truth—but sometimes, the truth can have tragic consequences. In these 14 series, we follow Jackie as she supports those caught up in nightmarish situations, such as murder, fatal accidents, abduction or a missing child. Some are harbouring secrets, others have a guilty conscience—but they're all victims, and they all need her help....
Written by Scott Cherry (Babblewick Hall) and starring Meera Syal as Jackie, with Matthew Marsh as DI Peter Sanders, this captivating crime drama features a host of well-known actors including Barbara Flynn, Lizzy McInnerny, Robert Glenister, Amanda Root, Ben Onwukwe and Ayesha Antoine.

Ok - but
I had heard some of these on Radio 4 and enjoyed them.HOWEVER, listening to them one after the other highlights how predictable they are. The acting is ok, but the stories are very average and you can spot the culprit from the beginning. A bit boring.

I loved this
I actually really enjoyed this. Sometimes I felt the story lines were similar but I still enjoyed everyone. The voice actors were great.

excellent stories and delivery!
Loved the stories and the narration. The first ones were a little too sad but later ones were just gripping police dramas with good twists.

Enjoyed listening to this series
I’d listened to a few of these on sounds on Radio 4. But it was great to listen to the series in sequence and over several weeks, Easy listening and easy to pick up after a few or several days. I enjoyed all the story line of the interpretation of the role of a family liaison officer in the W Midlands Police service. I love listening to Meera Syal whose voice is very soothing and my opinion. Other actors played their parts well. Will definitely listen to this again an a few years time.

Birmingham Areas I Know!
Loved this, brought on a whim based on it being set in and around the city I live in.
Stories are predictable and some plot lines don’t follow through such as the amount of times the DI does something wrong but nothing happens, but a fun “who’s the killer” on the way to work each morning!

Very very good.
Brilliant and got better and better so don't be put off by first two which are good but not as good as the later ones. Great value as well. Should be a tv series

I enjoyed this and wished there were MORE!!
I even went to bed earlier so I could listen to the Audible!
I'm not sure how close it is to the reality but I was hooked by the dramatisation.

Entertaining
Even though I am not generally a fan of short stories…I rather enjoyed these uncomplicated radio dramas

Binged it
Voice actors are absolutely believable as their characters, and the stories (both the Indian episodes and the ones weaved throughout the series) are well-told. I binged the entire series.
