Summary

When millionaire Leo Speight is found poisoned at his Ayrshire mansion, Police Scotland has a tough case on its hands. The charismatic young Speight was a champion boxer with national hero status. A long list of lovers and friends stand to benefit from his estate. Did one of them decide to speed things up? Or was jealousy or rivalry the motive?

Suspecting links to organised crime, the Security Service wants to stay close to the investigation. They have just the man to send in: ex-Chief Constable Bob Skinner. Skinner might have retired from the police force, but solving crimes is in his blood. Combining forces with DI Lottie Mann and DS Dan Provan of Serious Crimes, he's determined to see Speight's murderer put away for a long, long time. But there's a twist even Bob Skinner couldn't see coming....

Critic reviews

Praise for Quintin Jardine: "If Ian Rankin is the Robert Carlyle of Scottish crime writers, then Jardine is surely its Sean Connery." ( Glasgow Herald)

Most gripping ever.

once again the story line is excellent. loved the twist in the tail. Love the way incidents and team brought into the story line, yet book could read as of new. Cannot wait for book 30.
Brilliantly read by James Bruce.

So clever, never disappoints!

James Brice is one of the best narrators on Audible! The story is amazing and all the characters shone through, as always. Hope the next in the series comes soon. Thank you, Mr Jardine.

A Brush with Desth

Excellent storyline and characters. I love how Skinners role has developed, and the development of Mann and Proven. Can’t wait for the next one

Brilliant!

This book was great with its twists and turns and great plot. The charachters I'm glad to say haven't been killed off and I look forward to hearing more on the Lottie and Dan story.

As always the story teller was great and made the book come to life with the different accents and voices.

Another great book from Quentine Jardine. cant wait for the next one.

Dull and Simplistic

Very disappointing. Weak characters and story line. Very hard work to get through and i hadn't cared or noticed when it had ended!!
