About this listen
The Black Death killed almost half of Europe's population. This time it will be billions.
New Orleans has been quarantined, an unknown virus sweeping the city, killing 100 percent of those infected. The Center for Disease Control, desperate to find a cure, is approached by BioDyne Pharma who reveal a former employee has turned a cutting-edge medical treatment capable of targeting specific genetic sequences into a weapon, and released it.
CIA Special Agent Dylan Kane has been given one guideline from his boss: Consider yourself unleashed, leaving Kane and New Orleans Police Detective Isabelle Laprise battling to stay alive as an insidious disease and terrified mobs spread through the city while they desperately seek those behind the greatest crime ever perpetrated.
The stakes have never been higher as Kane battles to save not only his friends and the country he loves, but all of mankind.

not in the same league as previous book in series
I did so very much enjoy J Robert Kennedy's previous book, Rogue Operator: Special Agent Dylan Kane Thrillers Series, Book 1.
Sadly this fails to live up to that at all. First the story is too single dimensional and just a bit dull. Whilst the characters from book 1 obviously come back in, they do not seem to be used as well, and their lives are not developed further, very disappointing. The narrator was good as ever, but for me this was a missed opportunity. I considered stopping part way through, but decided to listen to all of it. It did improve a little and as long as reviews are decent I will certainly try another book by J Robert Kennedy, as with all things creative, you can't win them all ... but clearly this author has much talent!

Skinny on development
Although Kane is another typical super agent style, tall, good looking, heroic-badass-ninja and double manly-man sex machine, I found the first book entertaining enough to immediately download this, the second in the series, as in book one the narrator was good and the story has been developed well enough to keep me wanting more (and I could hopefully ignore the tropes).
Sadly, at this point, Kane's story falls apart. There is little interest in the characters from book one and other than the obvious need to create a series, Kane hardly makes an appearance in most of the book. When he does turn up it is only carry forward the weak plot points. I felt like giving up at but as book one was great I carried on. The story came to a conclusion and somewhat abruptly and of course the world was saved. Yay. But I feel I'm done with this series already. To me, this kind of felt like this would be a book 7 or 8 where the author was tired, bored and creating a filler to meet a deadline or publishers demand. I guess this can happen and there will always be a flat story in a series or one that misses the mark... but not so soon.

Was like living through Covid again
There were a few moments in this that honestly had me on the edge of my seat, reacting like it was real life and I honestly believe that’s because of Covid.
There were a few too many characters, like the first book, which makes it difficult to connect to any of them.
