Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
DI Eve Hunter is back in the edge-of-your-seat new detective thriller from Deborah Masson, winning author of the Bloody Scotland Crime Debut of the Year 2020.
A young man, the son of an influential businessman, is discovered dead in his Central Aberdeen apartment.
Hours later, a teenaged girl with no identification is found hanged in a suspected suicide.
As DI Eve Hunter and her team investigate the two cases, they find themselves in a tug-of-war between privilege and poverty; between the elite and those on the fringes of society.
Then an unexpected breakthrough leads them to the shocking conclusion: that those in power have been at the top for too long - and now, someone is going to desperate lengths to bring them down.
Can they stop someone who is dead set on revenge, no matter the cost?

A very good listen
I enjoyed this book very much. There were very occasional parts that felt a little repetitious, but overall very enjoyable. The reader was also excellent

A good follow up to the smashing debut novel
Really enjoyed this second novel in the series. A good story. The main characters are credible without too much emphasis on their personal lives. I look forward to more by this author.

Disappointing Narration
Good story, I have listened to both of Deborah Massons books. I am disappointed by the poor pronunciation of street names.
Cairncry, Back Wind, Cowan/Cohen, Marischal Sq.
Please keep producing the books but think about how the narrator comes across.

A mixed bag
There was good and not so good for me when listening to this story. Some long passages involving the DI's state of mind where particularly tedious and added nothing to the narrative. Her being told off by the boss was unnecessary and went no-where except to undermine the character.
It felt as if some parts had been left out or just forgotten about and the ending was rather abrupt and mostly unbelievable. Overall, it kept me listening but not enthralled or engaged too much. Such a shame as I was looking forward to it enormously.
