Summary
Penguin presents the audiobook edition of The Perfect Betrayal by Lauren North, read by Laura Kirman.
'I thought she was our friend. I thought she was trying to help us.'
After the sudden death of her husband, Tess is drowning in grief. All she has left is her son, Jamie, and she'll do anything to protect him - but she's struggling to cope.
When grief counsellor Shelley knocks on their door, everything changes. Shelley is beautiful, confident and takes control when Tess can't bear to face the outside world.
But when questions arise over her husband's death and strange things start to happen, Tess begins to suspect that Shelley may have an ulterior motive. Tess knows she must do everything she can to keep Jamie safe - but who can she trust?

Well worth a listen
Like all of Lauren North’s books this is well written, interesting and has great characterisation. I usually find the twist hard or even impossible to guess in North’s books but sadly this was not the case. I guessed it very early on so spent the rest of the book searching for confirmation bias. That being said I still enjoyed it and recommend it as a listen, and if you’re not an insufferable know it all like me who guesses it in chapter 2, I’m sure you’ll have an even better experience than I did!

Tolerable !
Not the best audiobook i've ever listened to. Fairly good story but I sussed it out way before the end. I do like something that keeps me guessing. Not a total waste of money though.

Erm... no
From about chapter two I had the ending. I was never able to connect to the main character and found myself rooting for anyone and everyone else! The narration of the male characters is super annoying. Kept reading to the end to prove myself wrong. I needn’t have bothered.

Nothing happens....
This book drags & drones on & on...I kept listening waiting for the betrayal to be revealed!? Don’t bother
The narration...the main character is read out with a normal voice . All the other adult characters are read with nasally voices!

Absolutely dreadful
Abysmally bad book. Transparently predictable and so so slow. So boring, so over-described, so baby written. The most annoying characters, not one likeable soul. I just kept shouting out loud ‘Oh for goodness sake, get on with it’. I skipped huge chunks of it but struggled through to the end hoping that it might redeem itself, but was sadly disappointed. Would definitely not recommend, unless as a sleep aid.
