After graduating with a degree in advertising from the University of Kansas, William C. Johnson attended Naval Officer Candidate School and was commissioned as a Ensign. Then, after attending Supply Corps School, he served as a Supply Officer, first on the U.S.S. Buck, a destroyer out of San Diego, and then, at the Naval Air Facility in El Centro, California. Next Mr. Johnson joined Look Magazine as a copywriter, eventually rising to the position of Circulation Promotion Manager before taking a direct marketing job at Fingerhut Corporation. There he eventually became CEO and led the company through a number of years of highly successful growth. Following his time at Fingerhut, Mr. Johnson joined Grolier Corporation as Chairman and CEO. After five years there, he joined Freeman Spogli, a private equity firm, as an Industry Executive. Eventually, as his work at Freeman Spogli wound down, Mr. Johnson began writing professionally. ‘Just an Ordinary Guy’ is his first book.
