A British-born Jamaican living in Maryland, United States, Wendy Shaia has always dreamed of being a writer. Her real life, however, included a satisfying job as a social work professor and mother to a large, joyfully blended family. As videos of police killings of Black people went viral on social media and on the news, Wendy began writing as an emotional release, and The Black Cell was born. She is currently working on the sequel to The Black Cell. When she isn't writing, Wendy is most likely gardening, dancing swing, or listening to her young adult children roast each other.
