When you are born the eighth child in a family of nine children, you see things others look over, and you develop a sixth sense about how people respond to you. Author, Wanda Lee Florestine, is that eighth child. Growing up in Detroit, Michigan, in the '60s and '70s, was an American experiment in racial integration. Wanda's book is written as a 'dream report' to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. She felt, as a member of the first generation to inherit his dream, that it was important to share the journey of integration, that really turned out to be assimilation, and a journey of belonging in America as a melanated "HUEman". Wanda had romantic notions about writing as a teen. Today, those notions have morphed into the realized work and understanding that her words matter, and that she can write whatever she wants—whenever she wants. By day, she is a Human Resource professional, and an author, trainer, and speaker by night. Off hours, she enjoys crafting and writing books, poems, developing workshops, and creating events. She is still living her version of the American Dream, still trying to build bridges, still chasing true freedom, still wanting to experience it for herself and her family. When? When she is not working, or trying to save the world, Wanda loves spending time with her two young adult children, and her family and friends. She loves traveling adventures, and engaging with folks from all walks of life. She loves hikes, beach visits, roller skating, swimming, wine tasting, live shows and concerts, dancing, great food, a good book, word puzzles, decorating, out of the box thinking, random acts of fun, and spa treatments; in any order. Wanda has lived the last 37 years in Northern CA. Wanda is a graduate of the University of San Francisco, with a B.S., degree in Organizational Behavior. She enjoyed being a “‘self-study” of how the organization called America, within the confines of race, has shaped her life.
