Interview with Todd Calfin What is your writing process? A calm, clear, meditative mind. In other words, a state of No-Mind. "In the space between thoughts, the Cosmic Muse has a chance to enter!" (excerpt from The Keys to The Palace of Bliss) What are your five favorite books, and why? The Little Prince, Siddhartha, The Alchemist, The Tao Te Ching, and Rumi's poetry. These books have inspired me to live a profound spiritual life. What's the story behind your book? The Keys to The Palace of Bliss is an autobiographical fairy tale. During my 30 years of blissful wanderings, I have often been described as a playful sage. The tales told by the main character, Theo, are the remarkable true stories from my own direct experience, on the road in 108 countries, generously funded by The Compassionate Cosmos. What motivated you to become an author? The opportunity to inspire others to live their bliss. How has Amazon contributed to your success? They are providing an excellent platform for me to share The Keys around the globe. What is the greatest joy of writing for you? Service. If I can inspire a reader to have a belly laugh, I have succeeded! "One belly laugh a day keeps the doctor away." (excerpt from The Keys to The Palace of Bliss) What inspires you to get out of bed each day? The bliss of life! And of course, the opportunity to share this bliss with others. Everyday, I wake up in the forest to the sound of the sea gently caressing the shores of Hawaii. I take a deep breath of gratitude and say to myself: "Am I dreaming? How wonderful to live the dream awake!" What are you working on next? I am content to simply bask in the bliss. When you're not writing, how do you spend your time? I enjoy hammock-meditation in the forest, playing flute for the humpback whales, and most importantly, frolicking with wild dolphins. Describe your desk. I love this question! The truth is, I wrote The Keys to The Palace of Bliss on the Cosmic Desk of Existence. In other words, there was no desk. When I needed a computer, one magically appeared—cyber cafes, libraries, friends. I live my life according to the Blanket Principle: “The Blanket Principle is based on the belief that The Compassionate Cosmos is a Warm Blanket, here to support us much like a Mother cares for her children. The Blanket Principle states that whenever something is truly needed on your journey, it will certainly manifest, and if it doesn’t manifest, then it wasn’t needed."
