Thomas Caverly retired from the RCMP as a Staff Sergeant and an alumnus of Simon Fraser University. His career has taken him coast to coast, touching on Canada’s provinces and territories and, at times, even jumping international borders. He policed in remote Northern communities and in cities on the West Coast. He saw duty as a street cop and a worked in renown units such as the Lower Mainland’s homicide team (IHIT) and the RCMP’s Legal Applications Support Team (Warrants and Wiretap). He sat on national committees as an expert in legal applications and as panel member for Osgoode Law School Search and Seizure symposiums. He has received long service awards, a Queens Silver Jubilee medal and a Commanding Officers Commendation for his investigative abilities. Tom received distinction as an accredited team commander and has taken his experience and knowledge and given back to the police community. In doing so, he teaches at the RCMP’s Pacific Regional Training Centre, Canadian Police College West, and British Columbia’s Justice Institute. He believes that policing should be viewed as a practice and he spreads this philosophy, helping to create a community of law enforcement.
