Ted Griffith is a 40-year communications and public affairs professional who has helped senior executives in business, government, politics, media, and non-profits to deliver persuasive messages. As president of The Fixers Group, his team has managed issues in such sectors as energy, water and wastewater, healthcare, municipal and provincial governments, agriculture, finance, mining, and retail. The firm is committed to bringing the art and science persuasion to their clients’ communications. As a person, Ted is committed to fairness – equal treatment of organizations and their right to be listened to by people in power. As a family man, he is married to his former boss (good story there), two adult children and three grandsons. The Griffith family is a growing clan. As a writer, Ted is a published crime novelist, opinion editorial writer in major Canadian dailies (both under his own name and as a ghostwriter for leaders in business and government). He once even talked himself into managing the Canadian Crime Writers annual awards (boy, did he read a lot of books…). Ted was also on the Board of Governors for The MacKenzie Institute – a Canadian think tank on all matters of security, including propaganda. The COVID19 pandemic forced a move from his 32nd floor office in Toronto’s financial district to his home in Burlington, Ontario – taking 3 hours a day off his daily commute (which was reallocated for his writing). His goal: to write the book he’s always wanted to write – exploring the world of lies, misinformation, and hyperbole and why so many of us not only believe this propaganda but repeat these lies to others. Ted writes from his 40-years as a professional communicator, having lived the power of words, images, timing, and people to influence opinion. The result is the book Theater of Lies – a deep dive into the use of lies and misinformation as the most effective persuasion tool the world has ever invented, why we should fear this, and what we can do to protect ourselves.
