A friend once described Shelby Wagner as “one who doesn’t let the grass grow under her feet.” This description has been true of her entire life as evidenced in this bio. She was recognized for her “outstanding achievements” in the 1990-1991 Edition of the Marquis Who’s Who in the Midwest and, thirty-three years later, in the 2023-2024 Edition of Marquis Who’s Who in America. Wagner's entrepreneurial endeavors and leadership abilities became evident in her early teens when she became the favored babysitter, accepted several private piano students, taught a Sunday School class, produced and directed a neighborhood play and a talent show, and was hired to be the church organist. As a senior she was inducted into the National Honor Society and played the lead in her senior play. Wagner earned a Master of Arts degree from Michigan State University and two bachelor's degrees from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan [a BA in Elementary Education and a Bachelor of Music in Voice and Organ]. She was a classroom teacher for eleven years, took time off to raise her babies, and returned to education as a music teacher. Wagner has over sixty years of service as church organist, pianist, and/or director of choirs from pre-school through adults Michigan and Tennessee. Wagner retired from teaching school in 2000 and relocated with her husband, Robert, to the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee where they built their circular dream home. When that project finished they got jobs at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, built a website design business, and founded the Parrottsville Business Association. Concurrently, Shelby was the church organist and secretary for Salem Lutheran Church. Following the death of her husband in 2016, Shelby began writing and published her first book in 2018. In 2020 she updated it and "Learning to Dance in the Rain II - Surviving Grief, Internet Dating and Romance Scams" was published. The book garnered several book awards including a Silver Medal (second place) in the Relationships/Marriage Category of the Living Now Book Awards for 2021. The book was a Book of the Year Finalist in the Independent Authors Network Book Awards and fifteen Five-Star Reviews. "A lively self-help for late-in-life singles - Kirkus Reviews" classified the book as a memoir/self-help, but a married fan told Wagner that "the book contains a lot of interesting information that everyone needs to know." Many readers have told Wagner they "couldn't put the book down." In 2023 she published her second book, SCAMS: A Resource Guide to educate about 150+ types of scams to help people become "scam savvy" and avoid becoming a victim. Both books are available in eBook, paperback, and hardcover, and “Learning to Dance in the Rain” is also available in audio-book. Wagner was born in Arkansas, raised in Michigan, and lives in Southwest Michigan near her family.
