While growing up in Santa Monica, California, Robin ski raced for Dave McCoy and his Mammoth Team. From 1965 through 1968, she raced as a member of the U.S. National Team and was named to the 1968 U.S. Olympic Ski Team. The day before the Opening Ceremonies in Grenoble, France, she broke her leg on a downhill training run. After ski racing, Robin coached junior ski racers and master’s ski racers from Southern California, Mammoth Mountain, and both Durango and Vail, Colorado, before returning to California to finish school at U.C.L.A. She then settled in Leucadia, California where shespent fourteen years teaching school for the San Dieguito High School District and raising two boys, Beny and Jesse Gilholm. Robin eventually returned to Mammoth where she now resides. In 2008, in conjunction with the Mammoth Lakes Foundation, Robin published Tracks of Passion: Eastern Sierra skiing, Dave McCoy, and Mammoth Mountain, a 70-page coffee table book with approximately 1,000 images, essays and quotations. Her current book, For the Love of It, is a narrative non-fiction that describes Roma and Dave McCoy's lives from their early years through 1955 when they opened Chair One.
