Between 2004-2007, Paula Constant walked over 12000km through eight countries, including over 7000km through the Sahara with her own camel train and only local nomadic support. Her first two books, Sahara and Slow Journey South, detail the journey and were published by Random House. The walk deepened a lifelong ambition to write high quality, epic historical fiction. Paula moved to Granada in Spain, where she spent several years researching the collapse of Visigothic Spain and the rise of Arabic Al Andalus. Her research inspired the Visigoths of Spain series of historical fiction novels, and more research than she had imagined possible. She spent the next few years writing the series in the early hours of the morning, whilst also working full time in mining as a fly in, fly out worker on remote sites in northern Australia. Originally from Mansfield in Victoria, Australia, Paula divides her time now between Broome, in North Western Australia, and Granada, Spain. She adores, in no particular order, her awesome stepchildren, Chloe and Taylor; walking on Cable Beach under a full moon; great gin; camels; singing the pina colada song at inappropriate moments; and soppy romance novels of all persuasions.
