Author Olive Rose, a proud Canadian with deep Caymanian roots, grew up in Edmonton, Alberta, as the second of five children in a lively household. Olive was surrounded by loving siblings, a devoted mother, and a father navigating the challenges of schizophrenia. Olive found solace in books, and during Edmonton’s harsh winters, and you could often find Olive curled up under warm comforters. Summers brought cherished family adventures, including camping trips in the Rocky Mountains, picnics at Lake Louise and swimming at Miele hot springs amongst the glorious mountain range. At just 16, Olive became a mother to a darling son and temporarily left school to care for him. However, her determination and resilience saw her, not only complete her high school education but also graduate as a registered nurse in 1994. Olive then went on to become a Intensive Care Nurse caring for critically ill adults. A, post graduation, visit to her parent’s homeland of Grand Cayman became a transformative 15-year chapter in her life. Olive embraced her cultural heritage, worked as a nurse, and drew creative inspiration from the island’s natural beauty. Even amid challenges, like devastating Hurricane Ivan in 2004, and hurricane Gustav in 2008, Olive’s resilience prevailed. Now living in Toronto with her partner, Olive thrives in the city’s vibrant cultural landscape. She balances her nursing career with her love of writing and enjoys singing karaoke, exploring new cuisines, and watching true crime documentaries. Olive continues to honor her Caymanian heritage through regular visits to Grand Cayman, reconnecting with family, friends, and the island that profoundly shaped her journey.
