NJ Simat is an author, a freelance editor, and advocate for animal welfare (including humans). She holds a Bachelor’s in Arts and Sciences for Pre-Veterinary Medicine from Georgia State University; but in a twist of fate, found her true purpose while attending Emory's Creative Writing Program. Simat writes across multiple genres, each bringing out a different side of her. Her novels delve into metaphysical themes, exploring the fabric of reality through relatable, everyday drama. Meanwhile, her nonfiction focuses on animal husbandry, blending practical knowledge with compassion for animals, and her poetry is introspective and existential, offering reflective and sometimes lyrical narratives. Despite the variety of forms, all of her work begins with the same question: what does she want to say? Driven by a desire to help, her themes are rooted in elevating understanding and connection. When she’s not writing, Simat is probably chasing chickens around her small animal sanctuary, Sanity Ranch, in North Georgia, where she finds inspiration and solace.
