Jim Hasse has spent his adult life writing stories about personal transformation. His work focuses on how individuals respond to limitation, how perspective evolves over time, and how small shifts in thinking and behavior can influence what becomes possible. Across more than a dozen books, his writing has explored disability, career development, aging, and the everyday situations in which people are asked to adapt, adjust, and move forward. A central theme runs through all of his work: Limitations, when understood with insight, can become sources of strength rather than barriers. Hasse is the author of a five-book Career Series that guides parents and counselors in helping children and young adults with disabilities prepare for meaningful, fulfilling work. These books emphasize the role of confidence, self-awareness, communication, and adaptability in shaping how others respond, including hiring managers. His perspective is grounded in both lived experience and professional practice. As a person with lifelong cerebral palsy, Hasse has navigated environments where expectations were often shaped by visible differences. Over time, he developed a practical understanding of how soft skills, mindset, and persistence influence outcomes in real-world settings. Professionally, he has worked in career development and held leadership roles in corporate communications, including serving as a vice president at Foremost Farms USA, a Fortune 500 cooperative. He is accredited as a Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) and is one of the few individuals with a disability to earn the designation of Accredited Business Communicator (ABC). He later served as senior content developer for eSight Careers Network, where he wrote, assigned, and edited more than 1,300 articles about disability employment. He also compiled and edited "Perfectly Able: How to Attract and Hire Talented People with Disabilities," published by the American Management Association. Throughout his work, Hasse has returned consistently to story as a practical tool. His early book, "Break Out: Finding Freedom When You Don’t Quite Fit the Mold," used short, personal narratives to explore disability awareness. That approach continues today in his ongoing series, "52 Shades of Graying," where each weekly story offers a reflection, a practical insight, and a question designed to support understanding and conversation. Whether writing for parents, professionals, or older adults, Hasse’s goal is the same: To help people see situations more clearly, respond more effectively, and move toward lives that feel meaningful and self-directed.
