Janice McAlpine was born and raised in Welland, Ontario, Canada, one of four daughters of working-class parents. Her first experience at writing came when, at age 15, she was asked to speak about the creed of her church's young people's group. It was a turning point in her life, giving her the self-confidence to explore more writing opportunities. Eventually, life led Janice to Winnipeg, Manitoba, where she worked in the non-profit sector and the insurance industry. A move back to Ontario brought the opportunity to be published in 2000 as a newspaper columnist for the Niagara Falls Review, the Niagara Region Seniors Review, and several non-profit organizations. On arrival in the US in 2009, she continued to write as a freelance newspaper reporter and columnist for the Warroad Pioneer for three years. Her Molly McPherson - 1st Lady Series books for children ages 5-11 are based on the adventures of a mischievous and lovable family dog. "Molly & Winston", her next book, will be available in late 2022.
