Jake Hanrahan is an independent journalist and documentary filmmaker from the East Midlands, UK. He’s been covering conflict, crime, and counterculture for over a decade. He’s known internationally for gaining access to stories no one else can reach. Hanrahan has a knack for embedding himself in places most can’t reach—from the trenches of guerrilla wars with rebel insurgents to the drugs warehouses of major dark web cartels.

Hanrahan has previously worked for HBO, VICE News, Esquire, and Frontline PBS, before going fully independent in 2018. He’s reported from Syria, Iraq, Ukraine, Palestine, Armenia, Brazil, Kosovo, Japan, and more.

His investigative work has won a DuPont Award and his filmmaking style is considered an innovative new way of making documentary journalism. He runs Popular Front, the world’s biggest grassroots war reporting platform, and Away Days, an underground media publication.
