Jacqui Furneaux had no plans to see the world on a motorbike. When, at the age of forty-eight, she should have been thinking about her pension, she took off for Asia because she concluded that life experiences were more valuable than money. Once there, she leapt into her new, aimless life with gusto! In India, she met a Dutch motorcycle traveller who lured her with romantic tales of the open road so she bought her own Royal Enfield motorbike in Chennai and travelled with him. She was constantly curious at the scenery and cultures she experienced. She was having such a good time that she couldn’t stop and wondered if she could carry on alone with her motorbike. Travelling solo was a success! A family of comedy actors looked after her following a serious accident in Pakistan; she had encounters with dastardly skippers on small yachts in Malaysia and Colombia; she fell in love in New Zealand, working there as a nurse for the terminally ill which highlighted the brevity of life so she and the Royal Enfield travelled on to South America and beyond. Seven years and twenty countries after buying it, she arrived in the UK with her trusty motorbike. It took another seven years for her to settle down to writing a book about her adventures. “Hit the Road, Jac!” is that book. The Royal Enfield remains her only means of transport.
