I was born in a small city in East Texas and spent my first few years living in a farming shack in the middle of tomato, peanut, and corn fields. I spent most of my time at the family farmhouse with its smokehouse, barn, unused outhouse, a few milk cows, and a chicken yard. My dad found an occupation that eventually took us to the country and suburbs of Dallas, Texas. A draft notice forced me to leave Texas and my young pregnant wife for military service. I had taken a college course over for a better grade, failing to realize that this put me below the requirement for college deferment. I had planned to become a Solid-State Physicist. My army career began working with wheeled vehicles, then tracked vehicles, and ultimately in depot maintenance in Germany. Due to family problems, I signed on for another six years to return to the States early. It was a good choice. My extension included the most extended technical school the army offered. I completed a yearlong test equipment repair and calibration training. After a tour in Thailand and during another three-year stint in Germany, I also graduated from a 3-year correspondence course in computer repair and maintenance. I left the army just short of 8 years and began my civilian career as a contract electronic and computer technician. This work exposed me to many technologies in my various contracts. An engineering manager from a previous contract persuaded me to initially go direct as a systems engineer with the company I would retire from some 13 years later. During the recent 26 years, I've lived in a few places selling in the northwest. Having sufficient retirement income, I've continued to increase my knowledge and use of computers, including using them to develop karaoke tracks and edit an extensive collection of photos from my travels. I continue learning the bible. Not so long ago, I discovered ChatGPT and realized early on that the proper way to create prompts was by asking the right questions that provided the AI with sufficient information to give the precise answer I wanted. I continue as a self-taught prompt engineer, choosing to formalize that career, learning to code and apply that skill in my little projects. I haven't had the same concerns about artificial intelligence as most media express. It is an opportunity. That may be because I've learned so many things in my 70-plus years. This perspective has given me a desire to lessen the fear of those affected by or who may wish to participate in the AI revolution. I hope this book and others in the works will do so.
