2019 Colorado Book Award Finalist & 2019 New Mexico/Arizona Book Award Multicultural Winner Diana's writing reflects her multicultural background. Her father advanced only to the fourth grade and her mother to the eighth. Books, other than an old encyclopedia, were not available. However, her father was a fantastic story teller and self-taught guitar player. Ida, her mother, encouraged adventures by listening. Thirsty for words, the Holguin children wore out the fairy tale section of that encyclopedia. In high school, Diana encountered love of literature as her English class read Charles Dickens. English and Spanish were easy enough, resulting in a double majored for a first generation college graduate. She went on to get a Ph.D. from Colorado State University and taught psychology at a local community college. After retiring, she began writing.
