I've been scribbling all my life really. Born in 1965, I grew up in the small town of Ballinrobe in County Mayo, Ireland where if a cat went through with his tail on, he was a tourist. In my teens, I began my career in writing when friends and I established a weekly magazine The Eavesdropper with a group of friends. Although I'd penned a book at eight, that magazine gave me the motivation I needed to use words as my trade, getting into journalism, and writing the iconic student book Kittyland in 1992, followed by Sure, It Could Happen (1993) The Elephant’s Graveyward, (1994) and Nightmusic (2001). A successful career in Irish journalism followed, writing stories from the west for every national and UK national newspaper. I was a winner in the EU Regional Journalist of the Year awards in 1998. In 2003, 2015, 2016, and 2017, I was awarded an International Golden Quill Award, listing my editorials among the top twelve published in weekly regional newspapers worldwide. I am currently Group Editor of the Galway Advertiser Newspaper Group. I live in Galway with my wife, broadcaster Bernadette Prendergast and our beautiful daughter, Giselle. My new book The Confession of Peadar Gibbons was written as I recovered from serious illness in 2014 and was published in July 2018. My latest work Insult To The Brain is with my agent Paul Feldstein (The Feldstein Agency) and I am currently working on a non-fiction book which I will complete later this summer.
