Twitter: @theDawnRenee Instagram: #the1DawnRenee I wrote and illustrated my first book in elementary school on manila paper with markers. I wrote again in middle school a book that I never completed. Sadly, could not figure out and ending. In high school I sculpted and wrote poetry. In college I earned a Computer Science Degree, and after working for several years as a programmer became a Technology Teacher. I had no idea I would return to my author roots. I was inspired again to write by a fellow author. I am really struck by the fact that many people see Black Female programmers as an anomaly. Often I'm asked what made me peruse a stem career. My honest answer is I didn't know that Black Females did not go into programming. I had an amazing set of grade school teachers, who NEVER put a label on me.... So I believed I could do anything. Thank you to them, I never realized how much they affected me until I began this book. I hope that my books remove the labels on children and free them to pursue and excel in future STEM careers. I created my illustrations and let the characters I created tell their story. I quite enjoy what they had to say.
