I try to center the human(s) in everything I do: research, teaching, consulting, day to day interactions. In my view this is the key to unlocking a better world - a more just, thriving government, society, planet. In my academic work this leads to a focus on the human-ness of the people who work for the state (bureaucrats) and the people who don't but interact with it (citizens). I think about the organizational bits of government's role in enhancing citizens' welfare - particularly organizational structure, motivation, and norms of state agencies and citizens' groups. I’m an associate professor of public policy at University College London's School of Public Policy/Department of Political Science, and an associate professor (with tenure) at Georgetown' University's McCourt School of Public Policy. In addition to academic writing and teaching, I work with Governments to help them understand and improve their performance. I've had the impact of my work recognized in a variety of fora, including lists of the 100 most influential academics in government and 50 most influential researchers shaping 21st century politicians.
