Dale Lykins’s purpose is to create community through sharing stories. The core of his life’s work is encouraging others to embrace their story and find their authentic voice. This happened for Dale when he left The United Methodist Church after serving as a pastor for 30 years. In 2019, Dale founded The Open Table, an independent affirming progressive faith community. Soon after, he gained a certification as a transformational coach, while also starting his blog, The Unlearning Blog, and writing opinion pieces published in The Cleveland Plain Dealer, The Cincinnati Enquirer, and The Columbus Dispatch. Dale's first book, Hush, Child is the story of how he arrived where he is today. Dale is a native of central and southeast Ohio. He earned degrees from The Ohio State University and Asbury Theological Seminary. Dale lives in Cincinnati, Ohio, with his wife, Shelly, in a mixed orientation marriage. Dale and Shelly have a grown daughter and son, along with two grandchildren. Dale enjoys cooking, gardening, and spending time with his chocolate Labrador, Avery.
