Colin Flahive has been living and traveling in southwest China for more than twenty years. He currently lives with his wife in the far-flung city of Kunming, where, in addition to writing, he runs multiple businesses and social enterprises. Flahive is the author of an eclectic collection of fiction and non-fiction books. In Great Leaps: Finding Home in a Changing China, Flahive explores China's rural-urban migration against the backdrop of his own transition from Colorado to southwest China. Great Leaps follows the challenges faced by Flahive, his partners and his employees as they leave their old lives behind to make a new home in a foreign land. Great Leaps is available in both English and Chinese. When the Cuckoo Calls is the fictionalized biography of Flahive's grandmother, Paula Kazmierski. Paula was just a teenager during the Nazi invasion of her home in eastern Poland, and she endured some of the worst atrocities of the war. Told in the context of Paula's struggles with Alzheimer's later in life, and her reckoning with fading memories from the past, When the Cuckoo Calls takes the reader on a time-traveling ride in the life of a World War II survivor. When the Cuckoo Calls is available in both English and German. One for the Road is Flahive's first venture into science fiction. As a tribute of sorts to one of Flahive's idols, Douglas Adams, One for the Road is a space adventure that pits the science and anti-science movements against each other on the galactic scale.
