Brigitte van Hattem completed a journalistic traineeship in broadcasting and, after twelve years in radio with the focus on "medicine", moved to the television station B.TV, where she worked for ten years as an editor and presenter of the medical television program "Bodycheck". When the station went bankrupt, Brigitte van Hattem set up her own medical editorial office. Today, Brigitte van Hattem lives and works near Karlsruhe, where she writes medical publications as well as professional books and fiction. Just as she has never committed herself to one medium throughout her life, today she refuses to be tied down to one genre. She still collects tricky diagnoses and unusual deaths, which she rewrites into short stories. However, she is particularly successful with her women's novels. In "Schabrackenblues" (in English: "bag-of-bone-blues") she takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the question of whether there is life after the menopause, and in "Lesbinas" she portrays the lesbian lives and loves of women over fifty. Brigitte van Hattem's work has won several awards. She is a member of the Selfpublishers Association and sits on its ethical committee.
