I am a college lecturer, practitioner in private practice, parent educator, and author of HyperHealing. Married for 20 happy glorious years, and a mother of six beautiful children, (ages 7-19). I began my career as a special education teacher in an inclusion classroom, with children of all ability levels, unique gifts and challenges. I loved all my students, but the most intriguing were the students with “special energy”, the ones who were trying to drink from a waterfall instead of a glass. The ones who dreamed all day, but then said something that no one else thought of. The ones whose engines ran on instant gratification, and had not developed habits and routines to focus their explosive energy. They were creative, funny, out of the box, and… struggling. They had trouble with follow-through, organization, social skills, routine and emotional regulation. It was time to fill their tool kit with strong skills and habits. I developed an intervention program full of novelty, discovery, structure, responsibility, routine, and faith in each child’s ability. My special energy kids began to flourish. The second wave of my career launched when my children were receiving ADHD diagnosis one after the next. While neurologists insisted that my children had a chronic brain disorder which could be “cured” or managed through the use of stimulant medication, it did not seem that my children’s struggles were due to a Ritalin deficiency. Now that my own children were being affected by ADHD, I left no stone unturned in my quest for deeper understanding and solutions. We all deserve the respect and patience to discover the root cause of our challenges, and the tools to overcome them. A single diagnosis for so many complex symptoms stunts rather than enhances growth. In my 20 plus years of work with people with ADHD symptoms, I have been every client’s advocate to achieve his best potential. My goal is to give you the knowledge and skill to thrive with and/or overcome ADHD symptoms. What people are saying about HyperHealing: It is very rare to review a book that addresses so many important areas in such powerful and helpful ways! I love the section on helping parents recognize the negative cycle and how to change it. I love how deeply you understand what is happening inside the child and how to empower him. The section on nutrition also was a nice touch. You have an incredible book! Your approach has great wisdom, and I can see it working with tremendous effectiveness. I absolutely love it! May it help countless parents! Your writing style is also very engaging and enjoyable to read. Your writing also shows your deep understanding of both parents and children. David Hochberg, psychotherapist *** Avigail’s approach to ADHD is as simple and intuitive as it is groundbreaking. The impact of nutrition and gut health on behavioral conditions is extensive and scientifically proven but somehow often overlooked. This empowering approach addresses the root cause of symptoms and teaches people to heal, as opposed to masking symptoms and giving up. Important and powerful. Danya Saitowitz IIN-CHC, Empowered Health *** As an educational psychologist and parent to children who are neurodiverse, I have grown to enjoy and appreciate people with neurodiversity and see it as a gift. It helps me understand my abilities as a mother to influence and assist my children in their struggles with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and dyslexia. This book is the compilation of several years of study and modification of findings on effective parenting as well as the interplay of nature and nurture on the final outcome of children with neurodiverse conditions, especially ADHD. I hereby recommend this book as a must-read to all parents, caregivers, and stallholders in the educational sector. There is hope with HyperHealing. Ijeoma John-Adubasim, PhD *** This book is breathtaking in its scope and passionate in its goals. Avigail Gimpel brings to the table knowledge, sensitivity, experience, and the desire to empower parents to trust their abilities and their intuition, while augmenting the latter with information and strategies to help them navigate not only their child’s coping with ADHD, but their own coping, which is a major factor in achieving success. It is illustrated with fascinating stories and examples. A must-read for any parent or educator who has encountered this issue. Toby Klein Greenwald, veteran educator, award-winning journalist and theater director, and editor-in-chief of WholeFamily.com *** This book is an invaluable tool for parents as well as therapists who work with children showing symptoms of ADHD. It is a comprehensive resource and includes practical advice and techniques that can be extremely helpful for our children. I highly recommend it! Ilana Sperer, OTR/L (occupational therapist and mom) *** It was a pleasure to read such a well-presented book. As a mother, it taught me to develop some real tools, which Avigail has articulated beautifully. It is a must-read for family and friends that care, and not just for professionals… Vivienne Glasser, owner Nusoil Technologies, mother of six *** HyperHealing is a comprehensive, practical guide for parents who believe in and are committed to bringing out the potential of their children with ADHD symptoms. It informs parents to make educated decisions, provides parent interventions with clearly laid-out strategies, and empowers parents to overcome the common stigmas created by our culture. A must-read for parents, educators, and professionals! Tzvi Broker, director of Pilzno, Work Inspired, director of Career Opportunities & Professional Network @ Shabbat.com
