Alicia Jo Rabins is a writer, composer, performer, and Torah teacher. Her first poetry book, DIVINITY SCHOOL, was awarded the American Poetry Review/Honickman First Book Prize and was a finalist for the Oregon Book Award. Her second, FRUIT GEODE, was published by Augury Books/Brooklyn Arts Press in 2018 and was a "New and Notable" selection from the New York Times Book Review. Rabins holds a MFA in Poetry from Warren Wilson College and a MA in Jewish Women's and Gender Studies from the Jewish Theological Seminary. She is the recipient of awards and scholarships from Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Bread Loaf Writers Conference, Six Points Fellowship, and Portland's Regional Arts and Cultural Council, among others. Born in Portland Oregon, Rabins moved to the East Coast with her family at four months old, met and married a Portlander who was passing through Brooklyn, and now lives in her birthplace with her husband and their two little kids. An internationally touring singer, violinist and songwriter. Rabins' musical projects include Girls in Trouble, a indie-folk song cycle about the women of Torah, and A Kaddish for Bernie Madoff, an original one-woman chamber-rock opera currently being made into a independent feature film. She loves coffee, gardening, ritual, and peaty scotch.
