About this listen
Shy, young heiress Lady Lily Rutherford is in no hurry to marry. She dreams of true love and a real courtship. But when disaster strikes, she finds herself facing a scandal-forced marriage to her rescuer, Edward Galbraith, a well-known rake.
Despite his reputation, Lily is drawn to the handsome Galbraith. In the gamble of her life, she agrees to marry him, hoping to turn a convenient marriage into a love match.
As heir to a title, Galbraith knows he must wed, so a convenient marriage suits him perfectly. But there is a darkness in his past and secrets he refuses to share with his tender-hearted, young bride. All Lily's efforts to get close to him fall on stony ground, and in desperation, she retreats to his childhood home - the place he's avoided for nearly a decade.
Must Lily reconcile herself to a marriage without love? Or will Galbraith realize that this warm-hearted, loving girl is the key to healing the wounds of his past - and his heart?
Contains mature themes.

I loved it!
I think this is my favourite Ann Gracie as it is all consuming with unexpected twists and turns. Excellent narration too.

Entertaining
Entertaining and good for a lighthearted listen. Great narrator made listening a pleasure! Will definitely look for her performing other books.

Enjoyable
I enjoyed this story. The characters were good but I felt storyline skimmed over bits. However on the whole I enjoyed it.

Love truly can conquer all
Once again Anne Gracie has written an interesting love story with a good plot. It is both amusing and heartbreaking at times and deals with some difficult themes. Alison Larkin does a wonderful job with the narration.

Loved it
I really enjoyed Lily’s story, and I’m really glad they changed the narrator for the rest of the series! Was a pleasure to listen to.

Another poor narration
This is the second book I have downloaded in this series , checking this was a different narrator and again I could not continue with the book. I suggest that whoever chooses the narrator's for these books thinks long and hard about clear diction and the ability to provide different voices for different characters

Irrationality
The fact she can't read or write is irrelevant. She is a "sweet young think", who say "I shouldn't do this it is stupid/dangerous", but does it anyway. She gets what she deserves, and ends up marrying a guy she knows doesn't what her. All because she wants him and will make him, "the best wife". As the book is so much twaddle, the quotations are really irritating.
