About this listen
Twelve humans are left stranded on a wintry alien planet. I'm one of them. Yay, me. In order to survive, we have to take on a symbiont that wants to rewire our bodies to live in this brutal place. I like to call it a cootie. And my cootie's a jerk, because it also thinks I'm the mate to the biggest, surliest alien of the group.

Loved it
Yet another cracking story. I’ve listened to lots of these books out of order and am not bored with this world at all. Loved that this story explained some of the origins of why things are as they are. Great narration

Great continuation of the series
I just love these books man. I've read most of the series already and I'm reviewing after my second time listening to this title. It's just as good as the first time.
Strangely, I usually hate books that centre around pregnancy and babies and will DNF if I get a whiff of it. I wasn't expecting that to form such a core part of the series before I started and even though I would prefer it if there was no pregnancy, I see how it fits in with the storyline and the plots keep me coming back regardless because they're just that good.
Dixon is brilliant at creating great unique characters who feel real, they're imperfect, get things wrong, are occasionally annoying but still very likable and relatable. Also, the way that she writes miscommunication is just chef's kiss, it always feels genuine and not forced. The books don't take themselves seriously and are very aware of their genre but still carry a decent plot and don't shy away from some uncomfortable topics.
In this book, Liz is headstrong, prickly and no wilting flower. She's the perfect match for stubborn Rahosh after their rocky start. I wasn't sure I would grow to like him from his behaviour in the first half of the book, but by the end I was won over. I like how this also explains a lot of the culture clash between the humans and Sakhui. The friendship between Liz and Aehako at the end is hilarious too.
Anyway, what are you still doing reading this review? Just go listen to it already, you won't regret it!

perfection
I loved the first book but have a TBR list longer than my road and I live on a main road nit some little cul-de-sac so it's took me a while to work my way back to this series. I'm so glad I did. I loved this book every bit as much as the first one and I'm going straight into the next one. the characters really do have character and are so well written, I highly recommend the series.

Even better than the 1st one.
Listen, I loved the first book, but Ruby Dixon has truly outdone herself with Barbarian Alien. The characters are realistic and there's more tension and fighting between our protagonists. Each scene was beautifully written, and nothing felt like a filler episode. Read this. You won't be disappointed.

Good
Another good one! You expect it to be all alien spicy scenes, but there’s actual plot and humor, too. It was different enough from the first one to be the audio equivalent of a page-turner.
