Edith the Empath Summary

Are you curious about what it is like to be an empath? Has anyone ever accused you of being “too sensitive?” If so, you don’t want to miss meeting Edith, a pre-teen girl who explores how to live in a world that often feels overwhelming.

Edith Sanders is no stranger to discomfort. Her mother passed away a few years ago and she is now part of a blended family with a new (often controlling) stepmom and a (teenage) stepbrother. No 12-year-old would find these changes easy, but as an empath, Edith’s added sensitivity presents another demand on her internal resources. Working closely with her therapist of many years, Edith learns new ways to deal with herself and her feelings. While being attuned to others has its advantages, it makes Edith a more empathetic and caring friend, but it also has its challenges. Emotions are exhausting!

Over the summer, Edith’s friends and blended family connect like never before. Using the world as their school—called Unschooling—they discover themselves through music, geology, and geography. Learning is no longer a bore, but a boon, as they gain experience and expertise about the world—and themselves—in unique ways.

“Fabula Aeternum here we go. Give us a clue on what to know. If you may....We will play....Throughout the world, throughout the day. Me and you. You and me. Playing and learning eternally."
