Friend Zone

It started with a kiss. One that never should have happened. Liam was only doing what best friends do—standing up for me. It didn’t mean anything. Right? Sure, it made the fact I had to move in with him for a few months a bit complicated, but we’ve been firmly in the mutual friend zone for years. He’s the one who christened me ‘Charlie’ after all. He only saw me as one of the guys. Crossing the line is off limits.

I knew the moment I saw him at the front of the classroom I was in hell, because Dashiel “Dash” Hampton was the devil. Even if I didn’t need the class to graduate, there was no way I could drop it. I couldn’t give him the satisfaction. Besides, we’ve been enemies for years…one semester with him as my T.A. wouldn’t kill me. Sometimes you have to lose to win.

I thought it would be simple. A strings attached arrangement with someone I trust. It doesn’t hurt that he’s a baseball God and talented in ways that involve his…’bat’. But what they don’t tell you about having a friend with benefits is how quickly it becomes complicated.
