This volume pays tribute to 50 different women poets, some well-known whilst others undeservedly forgotten but all contributing a single poem which we hope might nudge listeners to discover more of their verse.

Jane Eyre follows the emotions and experiences of its eponymous heroine, including her growth to adulthood and her love for Mr. Rochester, the Byronic master of fictitious Thornfield Hall. Abbandonato dai genitori alla nascita, il piccolo Edward Sydney viene preso sotto l'ala protettiva del signor Hasleden, un ricco proprietario terriero che fin da subito si prende cura del bambino come fosse suo. Passano gli anni e Edward cresce nella convinzione che Hasleden sia suo padre, scoprendo solo alla morte di quest'ultimo le circostanze della sua nascita.

Jane Eyres uppväxt kantas av grymhet. Efter att ha blivit föräldralös när hon var mycket liten tvingas hon bo hos sin morbror, men hennes morbrors familj accepterar henne inte, och den enda tröst hon får finner hon i litteraturen. När hon skickas iväg till en skola för fattiga för att studera blir skolgången blir om möjligt ännu värre än tillvaron i huset.
