El cuento de El soldadito de plomo narra la historia de un soldado de plomo que forma parte de los muchos juguetes de un niño. Sin embargo, este soldado es diferente al resto de soldados de plomo porque le falta una pierna. El soldadito de plomo está enamorado de una bailarina de papel con una lentejuela en el vestido que también se mueve sobre una sola pierna. Un soldadito de plomo mutilado, se enamora de una bailarina. Después de pasar por muchas desgracias, el diablo de la caja de sorpresa, de marinero por las alcantarillas, se lo come un pez...al final, gracias a su empeño y a su fuerza de voluntad, consigue estar unido a su bailarina, ya que debido a una caída fortuita en el fuego de la chimenea de la casa, sus penas se fundirán y se unirán para siempre formando un bonito corazón.

Una pata tiene varios patitos, pero uno de ellos es mucho más feo, tosco y torpe que el resto, por lo que todos le dan de lado y se burlan de él. El patito decide huir de allí y se enfrenta solo y triste a los problemas del invierno.

El día de su cumpleaños, un niño recibe una caja con veinticinco soldaditos de plomo. Uno de ellos tiene solamente una pierna, pues al fundirlos había sido el último y no había habido suficiente plomo para terminarlo. Cerca del soldadito se encuentra una hermosa bailarina hecha de papel con una cinta azul anudada en el hombro y adornada con una lentejuela. Ella, como él, se detiene sobre una sola pierna, y el soldadito se enamora de ella.
