La storia personale di Logan Mcrae non è certo specchiata, ma ora che ha ricevuto una promozione deve rigare dritto e tenere d’occhio, a sua volta, i suoi colleghi. Der erste Tote wird mit einem brennenden Reifen um den Hals gefunden, es gibt außerdem Anzeichen einer Strangulierung sowie diverse Stichwunden. Zur gleichen Zeit hinterlässt jemand kleine Knochenbündel vor Detective Inspector Logan McRaes Tür, die dieser jedoch ignoriert. Als eine weitere Leiche gefunden wird, zeigt sich eine Verbindung zwischen den Morden und der Handlung eines Bestsellers um Hexen und Hexenjäger, der gerade in Aberdeen verfilmt wird. Und plötzlich erweisen sich auch die Knochenbündel als weit weniger harmlos, als McRae dachte.
