James C. Allenton is a horror writer who had been at the top of his game. Lately however, he'd been struggling with ideas. That is until he met Allie Woodward, one of his younger sisters new friends. She had moved from a small town up north called Rosegrant. Allie had moved to get away from the terrible things that had been happening in the small town. James decides to base his next book's plot about her home town. He likes to do his research up close and personal so he makes the fateful decision to move to the town of Rosegrant. So he can experience the things he's heard about.

Verkan Vall and behind him the entire Paratime Police organisation work to keep the other time lines safe from contamination while at the same time allowing resources to be extracted back to the home time line. One of the time lines has a problem: a Venusian Nighthound has been taken back by someone who should have known better, to a time line in the 1940s. Worse, it's escaped to cause havoc amongst the farm stock. Verkan Vall has to drop onto that line and eliminate this terrible beast before its discovery corrupts the time line.

After officer Derek Lightborn is killed in the line of duty he finds himself talking to Michael the Archangel. The Archangel offers to restore Derek’s life to deliver a message to the people of Earth. Our violent ways need to end or we'll face a cataclysmic event. Waking up in the hospital Derek tells questions if the meeting was real or not. Friends, family, and co-workers all try to convince him it was not real. But his memory of the event is so clear he is sure it had to be real. Eventually, questions about his sanity arise which threaten his job as a police officer.

When Officer Ben Graystock becomes fed up with drug dealer Avery Spade's ability to avoid arrest, he tries a highly illegal method to bust the criminal. Ben sets fire to Avery's house. The officer assumes fire investigators will see the meth lab evidence and make an arrest. The plan does not work, resulting in Ben tracking down Avery's other drug labs and setting additional arsons. Police officer and volunteer firefighter Stuart Thompson is assigned to investigate these arsons. Thompson also happens to be Graystock's close friend and partner.
