Il favorito dei 10mila metri di atletica leggera, alle Olimpiadi di Tokio 1964, è Ron Clarke, australiano, detentore del record del mondo. Ma a vincere, dopo un ultimo giro pieno di colpi di scena, è Billy Mills, un atleta americano pressoché sconosciuto. Billy è un nativo americano, nato e cresciuto in una riserva, orfano dall'età di 12 anni.
