Die Galaktische Union hat auf einem Exoplaneten ein Klon-Experiment gestartet, das zu scheitern droht. Daher erhält der Erste Offizier Tornot den Auftrag, Nachschau zu halten. Sherlock Holmes & Dr. Watson unterstützen ihn als zivile Begleiter und geraten in eine unheimliche Gesellschaft.

Der Flug der Ultimo-1 wird durch ein Geisterschiff gestoppt, das seit zweieinhalb Jahrzehnten als verschollen galt. Nur ein Überlebender an Bord könnte über das Geschehen Auskunft geben, doch er schweigt. Dr. Watson versucht beharrlich, ihn aus der Reserve zu locken, während Sherlock Holmes die horriblen Vorgänge an Bord aufzuklären versucht.

Sherlock Holmes wird beauftragt, die Rentabilität eines Gefängnisses auf einem Strafplanet zu prüfen. Gemeinsam mit Dr. Watson und dem Roboter Elmer lernt er den Direktor der Anstalt kennen, der mit eiserner Hand regiert. Ein Aufstand ereignet sich, bei dem Holmes vermitteln und den Mord an einem Insassen aufklären will.

Frank Askin, Astronaut einer privaten Firma, verdächtigt seinen Boss, ein Zeitreisender zu sein. Dieser ist ein Konkurrent der Galaktischen Union, weswegen Sherlock Holmes den Auftrag erhält, ihm auf den Zahn zu fühlen. Dabei ist ihm Dr. Watson äußerst nützlich, gerät aber in große Gefahr.

Ein abtrünniger Ex-Kollege von Kapitän Decker macht der Galaktischen Union das Leben schwer. Als Pirat durchstreift er Raum und Zeit, weshalb er aus dem Verkehr gezogen werden soll. Doch auf neutralem Boden entführt er kurz entschlossen Sherlock Holmes, um ihn für Nachforschungen in einem Mordfall an Bord seines Raumschiffs zu verwenden.

Auf Gliese 1214 b existiert seit Jahren eine Forschungsstation, deren zwölf Mitglieder schon länger nichts von sich hören ließen. Bereits kurz nach ihrer Ankunft erfahren Kapitän Decker, Sherlock Holmes und Dr. Watson vom Tod eines Forschers, der laut dem Bericht eines Roboters nicht natürlich gewesen sein kann.

Auf dem Planet HD 69830 d existiert eine Forschungsstation, in welcher sich der Kommandeur Ksillington mit dem Professor Fokker zerstritten hat. Sherlock Holmes soll den Grund für den Streit herausfinden und zwischen beiden vermitteln. Dabei stellt sich heraus, dass ein Mitglied des Forscherteams spurlos verschwunden ist.

Die galaktische Union will einen neuen Schiffstyp testen. Das Raumschiff denkt selbstständig und soll Kommandos überflüssig machen. Sherlock Holmes & Dr. Watson sind mit anderen Passagieren für den Testflug geladen, doch es häufen sich die Fehlfunktionen. Die Heizung überhitzt, fällt aus, das Schiff gibt freche Antworten und es kommt sogar zu einem Mord.

Einzelne Wrackteile von geringer Größe künden von der Zerstörung eines Raumfrachters. Sherlock Holmes ist bei der Entzifferung der beschädigten Nachricht des Logbuches behilflich. Irgendetwas scheint bei der Lieferung gefährlicher Waffen an eine weit entfernte Militärstation schiefgelaufen zu sein. Zusammen mit Tornot und Dr. Watson ermittelt er den Grund, wobei sie alle in Gefahr geraten.

11,4 Lichtjahre von der Erde entfernt existieren auf einem öden Exoplaneten seltsame Türme, die ein Forschungs-Trupp der Galaktischen Union näher erkunden wollte. Leider verfielen alle fünf Mitglieder des Trupps dem Wahnsinn. Sherlock Holmes soll mit Dr. Watson herausfinden, was dort vorgefallen ist.

Sherlock Holmes' Ruf als Meisterdetektiv ist bis zum Exoplaneten WASP-165 c gedrungen. Dort befindet sich sein Auftraggeber schwer verletzt in einem Krankenhaus. Leider kann er nur in Stichworten von seinem Pech berichten. Doch Holmes gelingt es mit der Hilfe von Dr. Watson, dennoch Licht in eine dubiose Angelegenheit zu bringen...
